Pompeii

The famous Pompeii, buried under 20 feet of volcanic ash, new excavations are beginning here all the time as the archaeologists slowly uncover different areas. Lots of original Roman frescoes and wall paintings are preserved here, pretty much the only examples of Roman paintings.

Restored gardens, including original plants; Archaeologists could analyze the space left by the root systems in the ash, and thus were able to tell what plants were there. Cool stuff.
